Description:
Monitoring and interpretation of federal, state and local regulations that pertain to industrial safety, including all OSHA and Cal-OSHA standards.    Developing and communicating internal and external safety policies to all departments. Implementation of safety policies and processes. Conducting various safety training courses that include, but are not limited to: new hire, lock-out/tag-out, confined space, electrical safety, cryogenic safety, fall protection, fire prevention and suppression, respiratory protection, PPE, hearing conservation, emergency response plans, CPR/AED and first aid.  Performing various health and safety inspections. Working with the facilities departments regarding equipment installations, contractor activities, training and documentation.   Conduct or oversee industrial hygiene monitoring. Conducting ergonomic assessments and implementing corrective actions. Investigating potential hazards, near misses, accidents, injuries and illnesses and implementing engineering or best practices focused at reducing or minimizing hazards. Ordering, calibrating and maintaining EHS equipment used for emergency situations (e.g. monitoring equipment and emergency response supplies). Coordinating all emergency response activities and ensuring that ERT responders understand the purpose and operation of life safety systems. Functioning effectively on a corporate-wide EHS Team that helps ensure compliance with corporate-wide initiatives and programs. Leading the Safety Committee. Assisting with the Worker’s Compensation program. Interacting with occupational health clinics. Assisting with the company’s Wellness Program. Managing the Laser Safety Program. Assisting as needed with environmental management programs, including but not limited to environmental compliance and sustainability aspects or projects. Maintaining Hazardous Material Business Plans (HMBP). The selected candidate is accountable for making sound safety recommendations and decisions that have an impact across organizational boundaries but has no authorization to commit company assets or approve expenditures unless so authorized in accordance with approved company procedures. Requirements: BS degree in environmental safety science, engineering or related discipline. Minimum of 3 years experience in safety engineering or compliance. Knowledge of hazardous substances, wastes, and materials. Experience in facility operations is preferred. Experience in semiconductor industry is preferred. Understanding of environmental and safety regulations (CA and Federal). Experience with OHSAS 18001 is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong proficiency in English. Ability to be cross-functional. Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation. Ability to distill EHS programs into economic terms and present to upper management. Ability to train and educate groups as well as individuals.  Proficiency in MS Office applications (word, excel, power point and access). Ability to work as part of a company-wide EHS team to develop and maintain the local EHS program while supporting other facilities when necessary.
