Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator Company: ArvinMeritor Location: Troy, MI Description: Overview: The EHS Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, development, and implementation of the facility’s EHS programs to prevent injuries and ensure compliance with all pertinent MIOSHA regulations, applicable ArvinMeritor requirements and any local, state, federal regulations through daily interaction with managers, supervisors and employees of diverse backgrounds.Education/Experience: •BS in Health and Safety or related field preferred•3-5 years of EHS experience in an industrial/manufacturing facilityCSP, a plusDimensions: Position is directly responsible for knowledge, training and implementation of risk management programs to comply with company, state and federal safety and health regulations. Failure to execute these measures properly could result in injuries and fines and penalties. Knowledge & Skill •Strong knowledge of MIOSHA regulations and safety systems•Working knowledge of NFPA and ANSI standards•Good knowledge of lockout/tagout, confined space entry, welding/cutting, cranes, chains and slings, basic laboratory standards, powered industrial trucks and machine guarding•Hazard Communication•Hand tools•Compressed gases•Emergency proceduresProblem Solving/Innovation Must be able to leverage knowledge and experience to provide situational solutions to deficiencies and problems as they occur. Freedom to Act/Scope of Responsibility Works with direct supervision from the Troy Facility Manager and functional supervision from Corporate EHS staff. Impact / Decision Making Must be able to take the initiative to exercise reason, discretion and independent judgment when interacting with various individuals and situations, including outside medical providers and Workers’ Compensation representatives regarding existing and future injury cases.Interaction The Health & Safety Coordinator interacts and communicates effectively with all levels of employees from technicians in the laboratory area to the executive level.Principal Accountabilities •Coordinate various monthly Safety Committee meetings and document meeting minutes and leads accident/incident investigations. •Must be able to assess risks, including conduct of job safety analyses, and develop appropriate risk management programs.•Lead efforts to drive the safety culture across the facility.•Develop contingency plans, including the Emergency Response Program, which includes First Responders trained in Incident Command, First Aid, CPR and AED’s.•Develop, coordinate and conduct employee safety training.•Conduct new hire safety orientation•Maintain the industrial hygiene sampling program•Lead and manage the accident/incident investigation process, ensure root cause identification and coordinate corrective actions•Maintain MIOSHA Injury log•Conduct health and safety audits for the Troy facility.•Purchase and maintain supplies of EHS related equipment, such as protective equipment, and ergonomic aids while adhering to budget and project restraints•Conduct evacuation drills as required in addition to supporting emergency contingency plans•Maintain and update facility EHS permits.ArvinMeritor, Inc. offers a stimulating, high-tech work environment backed by an excellent salary and benefits package.
