WILLOW LAKE - SAFETY MANAGER U ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ·          Ensures safety policies and procedures are followed by all mine personnel in compliance with company, state, and federal Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) rules and regulations. ·          Works with management to understand and properly implement all Peabody Midwest policies and procedures. ·          Consults with all departments on the proper safe use of surface and underground equipment, fire prevention methods and safety practices including drug and alcohol program. ·          Acts as a resource for employees who have questions or concerns about policies or procedures in the area of Safety. ·          Directs mine rescue coordinator to establish team coverage and training as required. ·          Inspects the mine property to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where needed. ·          Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.  Coordinates the use of personal protective equipment. ·          Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, law suites, and insurance investigations. ·          Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies and company policy. ·          Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims. ·          Oversees first aid equipment and emergency preparedness. ·          Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness as well as complies with state & federal laws. ·          Escorts and consults with state and federal mine inspectors and assists in addressing any safety issues. ·          Must be a resource to the mine personnel on compliance issues and help develop mine plans to be submitted to state and federal. ·          Maintains safety files and employee records required by company policy. ·          Makes studies and analyses of mine accident causes and hazards to health for use by all mine personnel and outside agencies. ·          Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
