The incumbent is accountable for: managing significant aspects and risks; assuring accurate and complete EHS reporting of metrics; assuring that MESH self-assessments are thoroughly completed on a timely basis; completion of required training; managing interfaces with governmental authorities; directing actions during crises; management of workers' compensation. Position is responsible for: objectives and targets; investigation of incidents and establishment of corrective and preventive action plans; communication of regulatory requirements; directing industrial hygiene sampling and support, and providing necessary support for site programs such as ergonomics, sustainability, and injury elimination. Duties and Functions Include: a. Manages implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, safety and security processes and coordinates technical services such as industrial hygiene sampling, ergonomic evaluations, and energy conservation surveys to ensure compliance with EHS regulations and MESH requirements (Compliance Calendar). b. Identifies and facilitates implementation of EHS best practices across the business unit. c. Engages the business unit leadership team in the development of environmental, health, safety and security targets and objectives designed to produce verifiable world-class results. d. Identifies projects, activities and behaviors required to achieve business unit EHS targets and objectives. Tracks and reports status to the leadership team on a monthly basis. e. Manages systems and processes to ensure timely and accurate EHS reporting in support of Corporate, Regional, Group and Division requirements. f. Identifies fiscally and socially responsible methods of reducing the business unit's environmental footprint. g. Continuously identifies, assesses, and manages the elimination or reduction of business unit environmental, health, safety and security risks. h. Establishes and maintains relationships with governmental authorities on matters of mutual concern including voluntary certification (e.g., ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 registration, VPP), maintenance of environmental permits, submission of required reports/applications, and maintenance of data. i. Manages EHS training processes for the business unit including: identification of required regulatory and company training topics; development of site-specific training plans; development of training materials; completion of train-the-trainer sessions for designated trainers such as front-line supervisors; and periodic evaluation of training effectiveness. j. Coordinates the investigation of incidents (including near misses, releases, and losses) to determine root causes. Engages the business unit leadership team in the timely implementation of preventive and corrective actions. k. Initiates efforts to improve environmental conditions in the community and to foster employee wellness and off-the-job safety. l. Plans and directs response to emergency situations dealing with the environment, employees, or the community. m. Deploy processes and audit that all plant waste disposal activity is in compliance with applicable regulations. n. Actively participate in planning/purchasing/installation decisions regarding the potential EHS impact of new equipment, processes, construction, and/or renovation to review necessary EHS considerations. o. Coordinate with Worker's Compensation administration on completion of proper paperwork, case investigation, and return to work initiatives. p. Support & actively participate in the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) q. Perform other related duties as requiredJob Qualifications/Educational Requirements Comprehension of Eaton, industry, local, state, and Federal environmental, health, and safety requirements/regulatory agencies. Strong team-building skills Strong organizational skills including ability to manage and to track a large number of projects through completion Thorough knowledge of industrial chemistry and waste control/elimination technology and practices Adept at development and utilization of software solutions Understanding of manufacturing technologies and processes Ability to demonstrate managerial courage (e.g., managing varied interests representing potential conflicts) Ability to lead and support cross-functional process improvement teams 5+ years of experience with an emphasis in environmental, health and safety program management and employee training. Experience with security operations is a plus. Four (4) year degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental discipline or equivalent field of study.
