POSITION SUMMARY:
The job of Safety Compliance Officer was established for the purposes of planning, organizing, and implementing employee accident prevention and safety plans planning, organizing, and implementing programs in compliance with local, county, state, and federal life safety and health codes/regulations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
- Education: Associates Degree in Occupational Safety or similar field (Bachelors Preferred)
- Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- CPR & First Aid Certification
- OSHA 10 or 30 in General Industry
- OSHA 10 or 30 in Construction
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and develops written programs to comply with the state and federal Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) Act and Oklahoma Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) regulations.
- Conducts workplace injury and accident investigations to determine root cause of the incidents and prevent reoccurrence. Coordinate with Risk Management on Workers Compensation and recordkeeping of reportable and recordable workplace injuries.
- Coordinates with sites in the development an implementation of Emergency Operations Plans and perform annual review of plans.
- Conducts environmental testing such as indoor air quality and mold testing to ensure appropriate environmental conditions.
- Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations/programs, to include fire code, building code, OSHA/PEOSH and similar regulations.
- Works with District staff to review the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to determine the acceptability of materials used by District employees: maintains, updates, implements and reviews the Hazard Communication Plans at district sites for the purpose of providing a safe working environment.
- Works with the Maintenance Supervisor, Custodial Supervisor, and staff on Inspections and record keeping (e.g. vertical platform lifts, fire extinguishers, waste water discharge program, and Hazard Communication plan) for the purpose of maintaining employee safety.
- Conduct and coordinate safety training for employees to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.
LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule form, or blueprint form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.
To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee's eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee's supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.
