What you'll do
The Leave and Worker's Compensation Specialist is responsible for managing employee leave programs including FMLA, ADA, and maternity leaves, as well as overseeing the workers' compensation program. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and serves as a key liaison between employees, management, third-party administrators, and insurance carriers.
This position is located at the GEDC Practice Support Center in Southfield, MI and would require an on-site presence 5 days per week.
What you'll bring to the team
- Process owner and subject matter expert for all leave programs including FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, military leave, maternity leave, and ADA leave and accommodations.
- Review and process leave requests: ensure appropriate documentation is obtained and maintained.
- Communicate leave status and responsibilities to employees and managers in a timely and confidential manner.
- Track and manage return-to-work processes, coordinating with managers and medical professionals as needed.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state laws related to leave and disability.
- Manage workers' compensation claims from initial report through resolution.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, healthcare providers, and third-party administrators.
- Conduct investigations into incidents and coordinate follow-up, including workplace accommodations or modified duty.
- Monitor claims for progress and ensure timely filing and compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain OSHA logs or other regulatory reporting as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up to date employee records related to leave and workers' compensation.
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
- Provide reports and data analysis to support HR initiatives and audits.
- Stay current with changes in laws and regulations affecting leave and workers' compensation
- Serve as a backup for the Benefit Specialist and contribute to team efforts by accomplishing other related tasks as needed.
What we require you have
- Proven experience in risk management
- Proven experience in FMLA and ADA administration
- Knowledge of benefit administration rules and regulations
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Human Resource practices and laws including ACA, FMLA, ADA, and workers' compensation
- Timely follow-through and attention to detail
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or other related degree
- 5+ years of experience in benefit support and administration
- 3-4 years of experience with risk management and leave of absence administration.
- Experience with FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws required
- Prior experience managing leave of absence internally preferred.
