About the Opportunity

Wesdome Gold Mines is seeking a committed and experienced Underground Safety Advisor to join our Health & Safety team at our remote gold mining operation. This role is essential in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring regulatory compliance across all underground activities.

You have hands-on experience conducting underground inspections, audits and hazard assessments while ensuring compliance with mining regulations and site safety standards. You are known for being approachable and proactive. You are able to work closely with crews, supervisors and contractors to provide practical coaching, support incident investigations, and help identify root causes to prevent recurrence. With strong communication skills, attention to detail and a collaborative mindset, you take pride in promoting a positive safety culture and leading by example.

Position Responsibilities, Accountabilities and Job Duties

  • Conduct underground safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Monitor work practices and ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and internal safety standards
  • Provide on-the-ground coaching and support to underground crews, supervisors, and contractors
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in root cause analysis
  • Support the development and implementation of site safety programs, procedures, and training
  • Maintain safety documentation and prepare reports for leadership and regulatory bodies
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and other departments to improve safety performance and reduce risk
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and lead by example in all safety matters

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an underground mining environment, with at least 2 years in a safety-focused role
  • Formal safety certification (e.g., CRSP, CHSC) or equivalent experience preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial mining and occupational health & safety legislation (e.g., Ontario Mining Regulations)
  • Experience conducting underground inspections and hazard assessments
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems
  • Comfortable working in a remote camp setting and underground environment
  • Valid driver's license

Working Conditions / Schedule

  • Location: Eagle River Mine, Near Wawa, ON (Mine Site)
  • Shift / Hours of Work: Dayshift; 12-hour shifts
  • Schedule / Rotation: 7 days on / 7 days off
  • Type of Hire: Permanent, Full Time

  • Other: Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals. The physical requirements of this position include reading, walking, standing, sitting, reaching, kneeling, repetitive motions, stooping, balancing, pushing, pulling and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
