Temporary HR Generalist (Manufacturing/Industrial/Union Environment)
Location: Tacoma, WA
Duration: Contract (3-6 months, with potential extension)
Schedule: Full-time, on-site
We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support day-to-day human resources operations for a fast-paced organization in Tacoma. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in manufacturing, industrial, marine terminal, or unionized environments who can step in and provide immediate impact across employee relations, compliance, and HR program support.
Key Responsibilities:
Support full-cycle HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle management
Serve as a point of contact for employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, and coaching
Partner with leadership and supervisors in a union environment, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as internal policies and safety regulations
Assist with performance management processes, documentation, and disciplinary actions
Maintain accurate HR records and support HRIS updates and reporting
Coordinate and support leave administration, benefits inquiries, and policy interpretation
Collaborate with operations leadership in a high-volume, labor-driven setting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required
OR equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of HR management/generalist experience
Prior HR experience in manufacturing, industrial, marine terminal, or union environments required
Strong knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining agreements highly preferred
Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, compliance, and investigations
SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting unionized workforces (e.g., dockworkers, production teams, logistics operations)
Exposure to safety-focused environments and regulatory compliance (OSHA, etc.)
Proven ability to partner with leadership in operational settings
Pay Details: $33.00 to $40.00 per hour
