PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS

The HR Generalist supports daily Human Resources operations for the assigned location by serving as the point of contact for employees, managers, and temporary labor providers, and HR-related processes. This position supports activities related to recruiting coordination, onboarding, employee support, benefits guidance, leave administration coordination, and HR systems support, and general HR operations. This role partners with HR leadership and internal stakeholders to support compliance with company policies, applicable employment laws, and organizational initiatives while ensuring responsive customer service to employees and operational departments. The HR Generalist facilitates and coordinates HR-related processes but does not serve as the sole administrator or owner of corporate benefits, leave, payroll, or centralized HR programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge

Knowledge of general Human Resources principles, practices, and procedures

Knowledge of recruiting, onboarding, and employee support processes

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FMLA, PFMLA, and EEO requirements

Knowledge of HR systems, Microsoft Office applications, and general office procedures

Knowledge of company policies, timekeeping practices, and employee procedures

Knowledge of temporary labor coordination processes preferred

Skilled in coordinating multiple HR-related activities and priorities simultaneously

Skilled in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred

Associate degree with related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Experience

Minimum of two (2) years of related Human Resources, administrative, recruiting, or employee support experience preferred

Experience in supporting onboarding, recruiting coordination, or employee services preferred

Experience in working in a manufacturing, industrial, shipyard, or union environment preferred

Certifications/Licenses

PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification preferred but not required

Preferred qualifications

Experience with HRIS platforms such as SuccessFactors or PeopleSoft preferred

Experience coordinating temporary labor staffing or onboarding activities preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Responsibilities

Support day-to-day Human Resources operations

Serve as a local point of contact for employees and managers regarding HR-related questions and processes

Support recruiting, onboarding, orientation, and employee support activities

Coordinate with HR leadership, hiring managers, temporary labor providers, and external vendors as needed

Support compliance with company policies, procedures, and employment regulations

Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information

Key Duties

Assist employees with general HR-related questions and direct individuals to appropriate resources when necessary

Support onboarding activities, including orientation coordination and new hire documentation processes

Coordinate interview scheduling, recruiting support activities, and communication with candidates and hiring managers

Maintain internal and external job postings and assist with recruiting events or hiring initiatives

Support temporary labor coordination activities and communication with staffing providers

Assist with employee documentation, reporting, records management, and administrative activities

Support benefits, leave, payroll, and employee services processes through coordination and employee guidance

Assist with training coordination, employee communications, and HR-related event activities

Support HR systems activities and maintain accurate personnel-related records

Respond to employee and management inquiries in a timely and professional manner

Measurable Outcomes

Employee inquiries are responded to accurately and within established timelines

Onboarding and orientation activities are completed in a timely manner

Recruiting coordination activities support operational staffing needs and hiring timelines

HR documentation and records are maintained accurately and confidentially

Temporary labor coordination activities are completed in alignment with operational requirements and company procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, speak, hear, and operate office equipment

Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move office materials and supplies

Ability to walk throughout the office, production, and shipyard environments as needed

May occasionally board vessels, enter production areas, and wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed footwear

Ability to work in industrial environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and conditions as required

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to HR Manager

Works closely with employees, supervisors, hiring managers, staffing agencies, and HR partners

Coordinates with operational leadership and external vendors in support of HR and staffing activities

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular, reliable attendance is required

Must maintain confidentiality of employee and company information

Must comply with all company safety, security, and regulatory requirements

Must be able to obtain and maintain required site access credentials, including DBIDS or CAC access if applicable

Must become familiar with and comply with the Employee Handbook and Standards of Business Ethics and Conduct

Additional duties may be assigned in support of business operations

Pay Range: $71,000- $92,000

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity. At NASSCO Bremerton we anticipate making salary offers between the minimum and midpoint of salary range. Offers will be based on experience, abilities, and knowledge similar to the NASSCO Job being applied for NASSCO employees performing similar work.

Additionally, NASSCO employees earn paid vacation from date of hire, accrued at 2.31 hours for every week worked, seven paid holidays, and one personal day per year.
