An employee in this position performs professional work under the direction of the Emergency Services Manager Employee Development (Training) in coordinating, developing, and delivering education and training programs for all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. Provides classroom and fieldbased instruction for all credentialed EMS providers, supports continuing education and credentialing processes, and contributes to continuous quality improvement in clinical performance and EMS service delivery. This position is nonsupervisory.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for coordinating, developing, and delivering education and training programs for all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. Responsible for the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of basic and advanced training programs for all credentialed EMS personnel, including classroom instruction, simulations, and scenario-based exercises in accordance with local, state, and national EMS standards and accrediting bodies. Coordinates and conducts field training for new and developing employees, serving in a field training role to assess competencies, ensure protocol compliance, evaluate performance and provide remediation as needed. Responsible for the maintenance of training and educational records including new certifications and continuing education. In an emergency, or non-emergency situation, an employee in this class may perform in the role of a Paramedic as required. This position regularly collaborates with leadership, medical directors, and peers to ensure continuous quality improvement, operational readiness, and overall department functionality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Plans, organizes, delivers, and evaluates EMS training programs for all levels of credentialed personnel, including classroom lectures, simulations, and scenario-based exercises. Coordinates and conducts field training for new and developing employees; observes and evaluates field performance to assess competency, compliance with protocols, and readiness for independent operation; provides remediation when indicated. Assists with the planning, coordination, and delivery of EMS recruit orientation, in-service programs, and required skills assessments. Develops, reviews, and updates training curricula, lesson plans, instructional materials, and evaluation tools to ensure compliance with local, state, and national EMS educational standards and accreditation requirements. Collaborate with the Medical Director(s), training division staff, and EMS management to establish education goals, evaluate training outcomes, and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives related to clinical performance and service delivery. Monitors updates in EMS protocols, technology, and instructional methods; incorporates new techniques and evidence-based practices into existing curricula. Responds as a paramedic in emergency or nonemergency situations as required, maintaining operational readiness and field proficiency. Prepares and maintains detailed reports, training statistics, evaluations, and documentation of all educational activities. Performs other related duties as assigned in support of the departments training and operational objectives.

Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelors degree in emergency medicine, adult education, or a related field and 2 years of full time Paramedic experience; OR Associates degree in the above-mentioned areas and 4 years of full time Paramedic experience. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Excel and/or similar software.
Special QualificationsNC Paramedic Certification or ability to obtain reciprocity.
Must obtain within one year: CPR Provider Certification, ACLS Provider Certification, PALS Provider Certification, PHTLS, or an equivalent Trauma Management Course, ACLS Instructor Certification, PALS Instructor Certification, Basic Life Support Instructor Certification, Paramedic level NC OEMS Level I Instructor Certification, ICS 100, 700 Valid North Carolina Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in classroom instruction and/or field training.

National Registry Paramedic Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.
Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data and statistics, operate a computer terminal and audio-visual equipment, and do extensive reading. Some positions in this class require the operation of a motor vehicle to go to various agency sites and locations.
Driving is Essential
Driving is an essential requirement of this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid drivers license and that the driving record is compatible with the countys driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford Countys vehicle use policy.
