Description

Helena College is seeking qualified applicants who wish to become part of a dynamic and creative team for a full-time position as an Executive Director of Information Technology & Banner Administrator.

Reporting directly to the Dean/CEO and working in close coordination with the IT organization, this position serves as the operational leader of Information Technology at Helena College and as the primary technical administrator for the Ellucian Banner Student Information System hosted in the Ellucian Managed Cloud environment.

The position is responsible for the daily operation, administration, and continuous improvement of core technology services that support academic, student, financial, and human resource functions. This role blends technical leadership, direct system administration, and staff supervision, requiring a high degree of initiative, independence, and technical judgment. The Executive Director serves as the communication hub between the technical staff and end users and must have the ability to translate jargon and understand user experiences.

The incumbent supports the Helena College mission through research, analysis, implementation, and daily maintenance of enterprise systems, applications, and support services while fostering a collaborative, service-oriented IT environment.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Information Technology Operations and Leadership

Direct and manage the day-to-day operations of the Information Technology department

Lead, mentor, and support IT staff by setting expectations, prioritizing work, and fostering professional development

Establish and maintain service standards, operational procedures, and customer service best practices

Coordinate IT planning, budgeting, and resource allocation aligned with campus needs

Serve as a member of the Dean's Cabinet, including serving as Supervisor on Call on a rotating basis

Represent Information Technology on campus committees and collaborative working groups

Chairs the IT Steering Committee

Build and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, staff, and students

Coordinate with IT leadership to ensure alignment with system standards, policies, and shared services

Ellucian Banner ERP Administration and Cloud Coordination

Serve as the primary technical administrator for the Ellucian Banner Student Information System hosted in the Ellucian Managed Cloud

Administer Banner configuration, security roles, access controls, and system settings

Coordinate directly with Ellucian Managed Cloud teams on system operations, maintenance windows, upgrades, patches, and incident resolution

Monitor Banner system performance, availability, and operational health in coordination with vendors and central IT

Support Banner workflows, integrations, reporting, and data extracts used by academic and administrative offices

Collaborate with Student Services, Finance, Human Resources, Academic Affairs, and other functional units to analyze requirements and implement Banner based solutions

Research, test, validate, and coordinate deployment of Banner updates, enhancements, and new functionality

Diagnose and resolve Banner production issues, including coordination with vendors and escalation as needed

Support data integrity, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance including FERPA and GLBA

Enterprise Systems and Support Services

Oversee enterprise systems administration including identity management, authentication, cloud services, and core applications

Provide oversight and secondary support for endpoint computing, deployments, and troubleshooting as needed to ensure continuity of operations

Coordinate planned and unplanned system outages and participate in change-management processes

Maintain accurate inventories of hardware, software, and enterprise systems

Lead continuity of operations and disaster recovery planning for critical campus systems

This position provides direct supervision of Information Technology staff, including assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, and supporting employee development. The position serves as the primary technical authority and escalation point for enterprise systems and IT operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience leading or coordinating IT staff and operational activities

Experience administering or supporting an Enterprise Resource Planning or Student Information System, preferably Ellucian Banner

Experience working with cloud hosted enterprise application environments

Ability to work effectively with vendor managed service teams

Knowledge of enterprise application security, access controls, and data integrity principles

Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems

Familiarity with relational databases and SQL

Familiarity with information security best practices and regulatory compliance requirements

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Strong customer service orientation and collaborative working style

Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical audiences

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

Ability to follow Helena College, , Board of Regents, and departmental policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in a higher education information technology environment

Experience supporting both academic and administrative systems and users

Additional Information

Work Schedule: Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE MUS Contract. The typical schedule of the Executive Director is Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm; however, as a salaried executive leader on campus the schedule may vary to meet the needs of Helena College for events and emergencies.
