Human Resources is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining AARP enterprise-wide human resource strategies, initiatives, policies, procedures and related systems. This includes employee compensation and benefits, organization design and integration, talent acquisition, talent development and employee relations.

The Benefits Manager maintains and administers the organization’s benefit programs and policies. The role serves as a liaison between employees and insurance carriers to resolve issues related to elected benefit plans. The Benefits Manager collects and analyzes data on industry standards and best practices to assess the competitiveness of the organization’s benefit offerings. The role also tracks and reports on annual enrollment activities and retirement plan administration.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, analyzes, and designs new benefit programs and/or recommending modifications to existing programs, as requested or needed.
  • Reinforces ongoing efforts to enhance employee understanding of plan offerings and to promote individual accountability within communication and education materials.
  • Provides specific communications guidance for various programs that span employees and retirees, including but not limited to, written, legally required, content and benefit and compensation communications.
  • Tests tools and applications that support benefit programs, as well as compensation- related employee and manager self-service and provides end-user and functionality- focused feedback.
  • Develops educational and training materials related to the enhancement of employee knowledge and utilization of employee benefit, retiree, and compensation programs.
  • Serves as a resource to all employees on process improvement, automation, communications, and any area where business-related consultative feedback may be necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration, with direct responsibility for leave of absence programs (FMLA, ADA, short- and long-term disability, and related statutory leaves).
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and recommending enhancements to employee benefit and leave programs based on organizational needs and industry benchmarking.
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., FMLA, ADA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA).
  • Experience managing vendor and carrier relationships, including issue resolution and serving as a liaison between employees and external benefits providers.
  • Strong communication skills with experience developing employee-facing materials, training content, and legally required benefits communications.
  • Experience supporting benefits operations such as annual enrollment, retiree benefits administration, and benefits reporting/analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate HRIS/benefits tools and processes, identify improvements, and support automation and employee self-service enhancements.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
