Job Title: Safety Manager - Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

Job Description

This hands-on Safety Manager role leads Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) execution across active industrial and construction projects. You will partner closely with project managers, field leaders, and EHS peers to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and strengthen a proactive safety culture in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee EHS programs across active industrial and construction projects, ensuring consistent implementation of safety standards and procedures.
  • Partner with project managers, field leaders, and EHS professionals to identify safety risks, develop mitigation strategies, and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and all applicable EHS regulations through regular review, monitoring, and continuous improvement of safety practices.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain comprehensive safety training programs for employees and subcontractors, including toolbox talks, orientations, and refresher courses.
  • Implement and manage construction safety procedures, including job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety walkthroughs to identify hazards, verify compliance, and drive corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate and organized safety documentation, including training records, inspection reports, incident reports, and regulatory documentation.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to field teams on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set safety goals, track performance metrics, and report on EHS performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance safety programs, policies, and procedures to align with industry best practices and evolving regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety coordination or related safety roles, with a strong focus on the construction industry.
  • Proven experience managing safety on active construction and industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA standards and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering safety training programs for diverse field teams.
  • Hands-on expertise in construction safety, including job site inspections, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency in implementing and managing safety procedures and safety management systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, field leaders, and EHS peers in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels around safety expectations.
  • Solid organizational and documentation skills to maintain accurate safety records and reports.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 500 Certification - Outreach Trainer.
  • OSHA 30 training and knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • CHST - Certified Safety & Health Technician.
  • CSP - Certified Safety Professional.
  • Other relevant EHS certifications that demonstrate advanced safety expertise.
  • Experience fostering a strong, proactive safety culture within industrial and construction environments.
  • Ability to stay current with evolving safety regulations, standards, and best practices.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position supporting active industrial and construction projects. You will work closely with field teams in a fast-paced, hands-on environment that requires regular presence on job sites. The role involves frequent interaction with project managers, field leaders, and EHS professionals, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, communication, and visible safety leadership. The work setting is dynamic and operational, with a focus on continuous improvement and building a robust safety culture as part of a rapidly growing team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
