Phelps Dunbar LLP is an AmLaw 200 full-service law firm. The Legal Recruiting Assistant at Phelps Dunbar will work closely with the Legal Recruiting Department to help implement all aspects of legal recruiting including the on-campus interview process and lateral hiring. The position is located in New Orleans. The Legal Recruiting Assistant must demonstrate sound judgement, ensure confidentiality, and maintain a professional demeanor in all interactions with internal and external contacts on all levels. This is a firmwide, entry-level, non-exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
On-Campus Recruiting (OCI)
- Assist in law school communications; register for on-campus interviews at law schools.
- Help arrange schedules and manage summer associate hiring initiatives for firmwide offices.
Summer Program
- Work with the Legal Recruiting team to plan and execute summer associate programs firmwide.
- Travel to offices firmwide as needed to help and attend scheduled social functions.
- Help with administrative onboarding and offboarding for all summer associate hires firmwide.
New Associate Orientation and Hiring
- Assist in administrative management of firmwide onboarding process for new lawyers arriving from law school and from judicial clerkships.
- Assist in planning and implementing firmwide New Associate Orientation.
- Lateral Legal Hiring
- Assist in law school outreach and recruiting efforts that pertain to lateral hiring.
- Helping Legal Recruiting team with determining hiring needs firmwide, writing and placing job applications, resume collections, scheduling interviews and legal offer and hiring administration.
- Collect all completed new hire forms
- Prepare and send new hire and departure notices.
- Prepare, mail and e-file new hire and departure packets.
- Help maintain electronic personnel files in multiple databases.
- Help manage resume collection and response.
- Schedule and assist with Event planning and Professional Development training programs.
Requirements
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelors degree required.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
- Must be a highly resourceful team-player who is polite and respectful to others.
- Must be highly organized, meticulously detail-oriented, while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple work assignments and the ability to work under pressure.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written. This position requires substantial contact with firm attorneys and staff.
- Ability to safeguard confidentiality and have a strong work ethic.
- Strong organizational skills, problem solving skills and attention to detail.
