Position Summary athenahealth is seeking a Data Center Engineering team member to support the full lifecycle of physical infrastructure across our data center environment. This role is responsible for maintaining servers, storage, networking equipment, and facility conditions that support athenahealth's large and evolving EHR and practice management ecosystem. This is a 100% onsite role at our data center in Columbus, Ohio. About the Team The Data Center Engineering Team (DCEng) manages the physical devices and environmental conditions that support athenahealth's production infrastructure. The team works closely with vendors, operations teams, and internal partners to execute maintenance tasks, coordinate equipment lifecycle activities, and support the growth of the environment. Core Responsibilities 24x7 operational support Share responsibility for supporting data center-specific issues with local team members. Serve as the first responder for technical and facility-related issues within the data center. Hardware lifecycle management Manage the full lifecycle of servers, storage, and network equipment, including receiving, racking, maintenance, and recycling. Coordinate replacement of failed components and support hardware repair activities. Provide remote hands support for physical server, network, and telecommunications equipment. Facility and infrastructure support Work with operations teams and vendors to ensure equipment is operating optimally. Coordinate and supervise facility maintenance. Perform daily walkthroughs to check for error lights, inventory discrepancies, and facility issues. Maintain cleanliness of the data center, office, and storage areas. Ensure cable management and environment policies meet department standards. Troubleshooting and problem solving Diagnose and resolve hardware, network, and physical connectivity issues. Participate in problem-solving and process improvement efforts related to data center operations. Contribute to planning, design, and documentation related to power, cooling, layer 1 networking, and policies. Team and culture contributions Build strong relationships with the data center facility manager and team. Contribute to the DCEng knowledge base, documentation, and team culture. Required Experience & Skills Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs. Experience in a production data center environment, highly preferred. Understanding of data center power and cooling infrastructure, preferred. Strong understanding of server components and repair, preferred. Ability to troubleshoot Dell and HP server hardware and open vendor support cases, preferred. Basic understanding of power and cooling systems in data environments, preferred. Basic understanding of the Linux command line interface, preferred. Expected Compensation $53,000 - $89,000 The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.
