Health and Safety Specialist - $70-100k - Day Shift Job Overview: The EHS Specialist will function as a member of the Safety department, reporting to the Plant Manager. Job Description: This person will work standard business hours (45 hours per week and on call) in a 24/7 refinery operation. Will follow written and verbal instructions to establish, promote, and maintain a safe, reliable, accident free, healthy, and environmentally sound facility. Individuals must have good communication skills and work well in a team environment. Ability to communicate with various government agencies, completes all required reporting. Responsibilities: Audits facility for compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulations such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and DOT. Maintains appropriate records. Completes bi-weekly safety and environmental inspections and reporting. Participates as a member of the Emergency Response Team. Devises and maintains Safety and Environmental Metrics boards. Audits Storm Water Permit and Required Site Plans as needed. Evaluates process safety management (PSM) requirements and develops suitable plans or programs as needed to maintain compliance. Coordinates activities with management. Trains new hires on refinery safety and environmental compliance. Develops and maintains training program and corresponding documentation. Attends refinery management team staff meetings. Makes functional recommendations to management on safety and environmental matters. Assists with safety review of projects. Monitors new chemical usage. Verifies disposal and storage requirements are met per industry standards. Performs training on new chemical usage as needed. Coordinates with refinery management team as needed. Monitors odor control program. Performs odor control audits as needed. Monitors air testing systems, including portable and fixed monitors. Calibrates as needed. Coordinates with vendors for appropriate support. Manages fire extinguishers and other fire safety systems plant-wide. Coordinates replacement equipment and inspections with vendors. Manages spill response equipment including pads, socks, or similar. Controls inventory and coordinates with vendors for replenishment of supplies. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $40.00/hr.
