SCI Summary: SCI supports people with disabilities, behavioral challenges, medically complex needs, transitioning youth, the elderly, and other populations using Maryland Department of Health's Targeted Case Management and Supports Planning work models.

Position Summary: The Senior Benefits Administrator is responsible for all Team Member benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, unemployment, disability, and retirement plans. This role will also be involved with regulatory compliance and reporting and is responsible for auditing payroll transactions impacting compensation and benefits and other Team Member Operations related initiatives.

Essential Duties:

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for team members regarding benefits
  • Administers group insurance programs including medical, prescription, dental, and vision insurance, health saving accounts (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), life insurance, disability coverage, and voluntary benefit plans
  • Tracks benefit eligibility requirements to ensure timely enrollment and removal from benefit programs
  • Performs claims resolution, change reporting, reconciliation, and communication of benefits information to team members
  • Develops benefits information and statistical and census data for actuaries/audits, insurance carriers, and management in compliance with HIPAA
  • Oversees COBRA benefits administration and manages the third-party carrier
  • Participates in the pre-renewal meeting with insurance brokers and review proposals
  • Maintains and supports the 403(b) and 457 plan including ERISA reporting
  • Administers leave programs including annual, sick, bereavement, military, jury duty and others
  • Collaborates with Team Member Experience to develop and implement new or modified onboarding, leave, and benefit programs and updates to the Team Member handbook
  • Serves as the lead for Worker's Compensation claims
  • Administers the organization's wellness program and act as the facilitator of the Wellness Committee
  • Manages the plan sponsor accounts on all vendor platforms
  • Partners with Team Member Experience to update onboarding and processes related to benefit programs as needed
  • Collaborates with leadership, broker, and various vendors to create and implement a comprehensive benefit plan that is competitive and equitable
  • Maintains current knowledge of total rewards trends and legislation
  • Participates in benefits, compensation and other practices surveys as needed
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications on Total Rewards internal communications to ensure communications are well-planned and effectively implemented
  • Analyzes Total Rewards trends, researches best practices, monitors economic conditions, maintains awareness of legal/regulatory requirements, and makes recommendations for program revisions as required
  • Understands the organization's strategic objectives and growth strategies, offering recommendations on compensation, reward, and recognition programs to achieve those goals
  • Collaborates with Team Member Operations Manager to design and implement educational materials for Total Rewards
  • Builds, maintains, and manages relationships with outside vendors, carriers, and brokers and works to optimize and leverage their systems and expertise
  • Benchmarks Total Rewards programs for best practices to see where the organization aligns with competitors, and makes recommendations for changes to improve engagement and retention
  • Supports the Total Rewards Committee by providing needed information to make strategic decisions regarding Total Rewards
  • Measures and monitors effectiveness of programs and makes recommendations for changes, models cost impact and presents recommendations

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or related field
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or CEBS professional designation preferred

Experience Required:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in total rewards or compensation and benefits
  • Strong understanding of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, Pay Transparency Act, Employment Standards Act, and other related legislation
  • Experience as a participant on an HRIS and/or benefits systems implementation is required; experience in a lead role is preferred
  • Strong understanding of Total Rewards principles and best practices
  • Excellent technical ability with MS Office Suite
  • HRIS systems experience preferred

Physical Demands: Generally, presents standard office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position >95% of the time. Continually operates a computer, keyboard and mouse, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, and mobile Smartphone device. Constantly positions self to comfortably maintain computer equipment. May occasionally be required to move about in an office setting or position office equipment weighing between 10-25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. The person in this position frequently communicates with other people. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
