Safety Coordinator Job Description Oversee and continuously improve health and safety practices in a structural steel manufacturing and fabrication environment. This role delivers safety trainings, conducts inspections and audits, and supports compliance with regulatory and internal safety standards to ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant workplace. Responsibilities Deliver and coordinate safety trainings for employees including general safety, equipment operation, and workplace procedures. Administer and track forklift certification training, ensuring all operators receive proper instruction and maintain valid certifications. Administer and track overhead crane (OH crane) certification training, verifying that all crane operators are trained and certified according to company and regulatory requirements. Develop, present, and update general safety training programs tailored to a fabrication and industrial safety environment. Perform regular safety inspections on the shop floor, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety procedures. Conduct safety audits to assess compliance with OSHA regulations, internal policies, and environmental health and safety (EHS) standards. Document inspection and audit findings accurately and promptly, including detailed data entry into safety and compliance systems. Follow up on audit and inspection results by helping develop corrective actions and monitoring their implementation. Support and promote safety management initiatives, including continuous improvement of safety procedures and practices in the manufacturing environment. Assist with EHS compliance activities, ensuring alignment with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies. Maintain organized records of trainings, certifications, inspections, audits, and safety-related documentation for reporting and compliance purposes. Collaborate with supervisors and shop personnel to reinforce safe work habits and address safety concerns in a timely and constructive manner. Monitor the manufacturing environment for emerging safety risks and recommend proactive measures to mitigate potential hazards. Contribute to a culture of safety by communicating clearly, leading by example, and encouraging employee participation in safety programs. Essential Skills Experience in safety coordination or safety training within a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Hands-on experience with industrial safety practices in a structural steel or similar heavy fabrication setting. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance requirements in an industrial environment. Ability to deliver safety training sessions clearly and confidently to diverse groups of shop employees. Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and compliance checks in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to administer and manage equipment-related safety certifications such as forklift and overhead crane training. High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in documentation, data entry, and recordkeeping. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple trainings, audits, and compliance activities simultaneously. Effective verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings and providing clear safety guidance. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 30 certification is highly beneficial. OSHA 500 certification is a strong plus. Previous experience in safety management within a structural steel manufacturing or fabrication shop is preferred. Experience in developing or improving safety procedures and programs in an industrial environment. Comfort using basic computer systems and software for data entry, reporting, and tracking certifications.
