HR Generalist Industry: Nonprofit / Association Location (City, State): Washington, DC Assignment Type: Contract-to-Hire (target conversion after approximately 4 months based on performance) Pay: $30-$34/hour (depending on experience) Work Schedule: Hybrid schedule with Monday-Thursday onsite and Fridays remote. Standard hours are 8:30 AM-5:00 PM with a 1-hour unpaid lunch. Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). About Our Client: Addison Group is partnering with a well-established nonprofit association in Washington, DC to hire an HR Generalist for their collaborative HR team. Job Description: The HR Generalist will support day-to-day human resources operations and help manage the employee experience from onboarding through offboarding. This role works closely with leadership and staff across the organization and is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing administrative coordination, employee support, compliance, and HR operations in a small office environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats while working in a fast-paced professional environment. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate recruitment activities including interview scheduling, candidate communication, and onboarding logistics Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes, including documentation and orientation coordination Maintain accurate employee records within HRIS and applicant tracking systems Assist employees and managers with HR-related questions regarding policies, benefits, leave administration, and procedures Support benefits administration and open enrollment activities Coordinate leave administration processes including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and related documentation Draft HR-related communications, employment letters, and employee correspondence Track performance review timelines and assist with HR compliance initiatives Help support employee engagement programs, culture initiatives, and special HR projects Provide administrative support including scheduling, meeting coordination, and document management Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred 2-4 years of progressive HR experience in a nonprofit, association, professional services, or small to mid-sized organization Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR operations Familiarity with employment law basics including FMLA, ADA, and FLSA Experience using HRIS and ATS platforms such as ADP, Paylocity, or similar systems Strong Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Excel, and Word Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across teams Collaborative, humble, and open to feedback Additional Details: Team Size: 2-person HR team Organization Size: Approximately 30+ employees Target Start Date: June 2026 Interview Process Includes: Initial virtual interview Final onsite interviews with leadership team Domestic travel may occasionally be required, 10% Overtime eligible with supervisor approval Equipment provided by client Parking reimbursement available for onsite days Must provide 1-2 professional references at time of submission Perks: Strong long-term growth potential within the organization Excellent employee retention and collaborative company culture Opportunity to work closely with executive leadership Hybrid work schedule with remote Fridays Outstanding conversion benefits package including generous retirement contributions, bonus potential, and fully covered medical benefits upon permanent hire Additional wellness and holiday office closures throughout the year Addison Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
