Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located at 309 Colombo Street SW, Suite 102, Valdese - Burke County, with the Department of Adult Correction.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.67 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
This position serves a critical role in the Adult Correction certification process.
Travel is required as necessary for training, meetings, and investigation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Position will conduct employment reference checks and verification of certification for candidates having prior experience at any law enforcement, corrections or security agency to determine certification/employment eligibility for ACJJ positions certified by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
- Conduct background investigations.
- Manage, track and respond to requests for information from the NC Criminal Justice Standards Division, DPS staff, and other agencies.
- Position serves as backup to the Receptionist and assists with applicant fingerprinting and testing.
- Position will also maintain databases and assist with scanning and other duties as assigned, ensuring timely and efficient operations.
- Must be eligible for certification as a DCI operator to conduct criminal background checks.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree, typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
