Supervisor: Director of Human Resources
Position Summary: Provides support for a wide variety of activities of human resources including recruiting, and grant management. Works with the Director of Human Resources in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, procedures and activities. The position will also focus on compensation programs, ensuring internal equity, external competitiveness, and compliance with applicable regulations and Health Center policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as a partner to Director HR and management team by providing guidance, education, and coaching on job descriptions, position evaluation and regulatory issues and compliance.
Maintains standardized job descriptions, determining appropriate exemption status under FLSA guidelines.
Assists hiring managers with the recruiting process. Ensures diverse, low-income candidates are identified in hopes of hiring for the OCS grant by posting all jobs internally, on BNHC's website, and with partner organizations in the community. Maintains relationships with universities, employment agencies, and other recruitment resources by attending job fairs. Coordinates with immigration attorney for visa processing/gathering necessary data.
Processes Criminal Offenders Registry background checks (CORI) for all new hires. Runs background checks for advance educational degrees as required by the position.
Along with the HR Director, serves as a resource for staff for HR-related issues. Participates with the HR team in weekly HR Rounding duties.
Presents at New Hire Employee Orientation.
Works with vendor for worker’s compensation claims.
Processes FMLA requests
Works with staff and finance office for education assistance requests
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field required plus 3 years of experience at a professional level performing HR generalist duties. Must have knowledge of FLSA regulations and employment laws. Knowledge of standard compensation principles. Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Word, Excel and Outlook. Working knowledge of ADP system. Ability to use and communicate confidential information in a discreet manner. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional research, analytical and evaluation skills. Heath Care experience a plus. Experience working with diverse, low-income individuals required. Bilingual ability in Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, or Spanish preferred.
Works in the community in urban, downtown district. Long hours and weekend work may sometimes be required. Interruptions are present and can be disruptive to work flow. Stress is present due to a high volume of work, diversified nature of activities, and frequent crises and deadlines.
Physical demands requiring lifting of small equipment and/or boxes not to exceed 20 pounds. Standing, walking and sitting involved with position. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading and hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversations with or without the use of audio devices.
