Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist provides broad-based HR support in a collegiate environment, with emphasis on talent management, HR operations, employee support, and project coordination. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, this role serves as a key resource for employees, supervisors, and campus partners by supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations intake, policy guidance, compliance tracking, HR communications, and process improvement.
The Human Resources Generalist also supports strategic HR initiatives led by the AVP, including talent planning, policy implementation, workforce reporting, employee experience projects, and operational improvements. The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and a service-oriented approach to supporting a diverse campus community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support employment life cycle activities, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and off boarding events.
- Assist hiring managers and search committees with recruitment logistics, equitable hiring practices, and candidate experience.
- Enter, review, and maintain employee data in HR systems with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Generate routine HR reports and assist with data validation, workforce tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Serve as an initial HR contact for employees and supervisors regarding policies, procedures, employment processes, and general HR questions.
- Support employee relations intake by gathering information, documenting concerns, and escalating sensitive or complex matters as appropriate.
- Assist with HR operations, including employment changes, personnel records, HRIS updates, compliance tracking, reporting, and audit preparation.
- Assist with the development of templates, guides, checklists, and communication tools that improve HR service delivery.
- Assist with data gathering, analysis, and reporting to support decision-making by the AVP for Human Resources and senior leadership.
- Support HR aligned processes with campus partners including payroll, leave management, etc.
- Support HR policy review, process improvement, employee engagement, performance management, workforce planning, and other institutional HR initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with professionalism and discretion.
- Build effective working relationships with faculty, staff, supervisors, administrators, and campus partners.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in human resources, business administration, organizational development, higher education administration, or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible human resources experience.
- Working knowledge of HR practices related to recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, HR operations, policy administration, and employment documentation.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work accurately with details.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace.
- Commitment to providing responsive, professional, and equitable HR service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday experience highly preferred.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification.
- HR experience in higher education, nonprofit, public sector, or a similarly complex service-oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR compliance practices.
